WMI trip to the Netherlands

The Rev. Dr. Edwin van Driel will lead this trip to the Netherlands as part of his MI40, Church Amidst Secularization, class. Dutch society has become highly secularized, with a quarter of the population declaring themselves atheist and only a small percentage participating in church life. In such an environment, how do Christian communities function? What have Dutch churches learned about God, themselves, and their neighbors? What would they like to teach us? On this trip we will visit church plants and immigrant churches in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, observe how a fourteenth-century city church (from which once the Pilgrims left on their journey to the new world!) has been missionally redeveloped, and stay overnight with a community in the new monastic tradition in a small 340-people farming community in the Frysian countryside. Students will be participant-observers in worship and other activities of these communities, meet with leaders and congregants, and engage in neighborhood exegesis. In Amsterdam we will also meet with missiology students and their teacher at the Free University.

Choose a giving level

Encourage Me!

Students and others are able to participate in a World Mission Initiative mission opportunity because they are encouraged by a classmate, professor, WMI staff member, and especially because of the financial support they are promised. Thank you for strengthening this promise through your gift of support!

Equip Me!

Participants gather for three pre-trip preparation sessions before they leave for peoples and places completely new to them. Your gift equips students to go into the world with spiritual readiness and cross-cultural awareness.

Pack Me!

WMI encourages participants to "pack light" by leaving behind both items and attitudes that might hinder their witness. Your gift resources participants with what they really need both in their suitcases and in their hearts - humility, faith, and love - as they participate in God's mission.

Pray for Me!

WMI sends participants with a strong foundation of prayer and with confidence in the promise of the Holy Spirit's presence. Your gift of support for participants' travel costs gives tangible testimony to the strong prayer support that surrounds them as well.

Mobilize Me!

Participants are mobilized into God's mission in a lasting way when they form relationships, as happens through Christian partners around the globe who welcome WMI trip participants to join them in ministry. Your gift gives participants the opportunity to form lasting relationships with church leaders around the world.

Send Me!

Your gift encourages, equips, packs, prays for, and mobilizes participants well on their way to participating in what Jesus Christ is up to in another part of God's world! Thank you for sending participants from PTS on a life-changing, ministry-shaping World Mission Initiative trip!
